“YouthBuild is an incredible program that not only provides young people with real skills but also deserving families with a home. I was proud to support this important bill because it will improve our public schools, create clean energy jobs, reduce our dependence on foreign oil and lower energy costs for taxpayers.
Nationwide, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act provides $13 billion in Title I funds, which helps low-income students, and $13.5 billion in IDEA funds, which helps students with disabilities. This is the first of two installments of direct funding for Title I and IDEA programs that for school districts will receive under President Obama’s American Recovery and Reinvestment Act; the second installment of funds will be released to districts in the fall of this year.
“Picturing America is a unique program that provides students with a gateway to the entire universe of the humanities,” said Congressman Cohen. “By bringing great art into public and private schools, libraries and communities like ours, this program offers Americans of all ages the opportunity to learn about our history in a fresh and engaging way.”
“I am very pleased to announce this nearly half-million dollar award for Crichton College,” said Congressman Cohen. “Crichton plans to strengthen its ability to produce highly qualified urban educators for Memphis by improving the credentials and resources of its teacher education program, and this federal support will go a long way toward helping them realize their goal.”
