This week I received my Subcommittee assignments and will serve as the Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Regulatory Reform, Commercial and Antitrust Law. I also appeared on Current TV to discuss voting rights, gun safety, Congress and President Obama. And House Republicans voted to temporarily suspend the debt limit until May 19.

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) declared his firm and unequivocal support for the Democratic effort to reauthorize and strengthen the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). Passed 19 years ago, this landmark legislation focused the resources, time, and energy of federal, state, and local law enforcement on the task of preventing and stopping domestic abuse, while providing victims of violence with critical services and assistance.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) has introduced the John Tanner Fairness and Independence in Redistricting (FAIR) Act (H.R. 278), which would require states to take their congressional apportionment out of the political process and place it in the hands of an independent redistricting commission.
