WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today introduced the National Guard and Reservist Debt Relief Extension Act, a measure that continues the exemption from the means test under Chapter 7 of the bankruptcy code for national guard members and reservists, continuing the parity with active duty servicemembers.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9), a senior member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines and Hazardous Materials, today raised the issues of recent derailments, understaffing and the need for additional paid sick leave at a hearing entitled “Getting Back on Track: Exploring Supply Chain Resilience and Challenges.” In his questions, Congressman Cohen focused on sick leave agreements and the need to recruit, train and retain railroad workers.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9), a senior member of the Judiciary Committee, today offered an amendment to a partisan Republican Congressional resolution to include measures supported by major police organizations aimed at protecting the public and police officers. Congressman Cohen was the legal advisor to the Memphis Police Department early in his career.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced that the University of Memphis will receive a $415,516 grant from the National Cancer Institute to study organotropic metastasis of breast cancer under the direction of Chemistry Professor Dr. Xiohua Huang.

WASHINGTON – During the markup of a Congressional resolution recognizing National Police Week, Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9), a senior member of the Judiciary Committee, remembered the heroism of Memphis Police Officer Geoffrey Redd, killed in the line of duty in February. He also commended the bravery of the police officers who confronted a shooter at the Covenant School in Nashville in March.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today applauded the Biden Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program that has already provided debt relief to 610,000 student borrowers, including at least 58,000 in Tennessee’s 9th Congressional District that he represents.
