WASHINGTON – Congressmen Steve Cohen (D-TN) and John Ratcliffe (R-TX) today introduced legislation to protect consumers from unfair taxes on digital goods and services like those purchased over the internet or on smartphones. The Digital Goods and Services Tax Fairness Act would ensure that digital goods and services are not taxed at a higher rate than their tangible counterparts.
"Digital goods and services have become a driving force in our national economy," said Congressman Cohen. "We should make sure consumers are treated fairly and are not taxed unfairly."
WASHINGTON – Congressmen Steve Cohen (D-TN), a senior member of the House Subcommittee on Aviation, today called on the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to ground 737 Max 8 planes until it can confirm that they are safe to fly. MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Congressman Steve Cohen is now calling on the FAA to ground all Boeing 737 MAX 8 airplanes after recent safety concerns.
Twenty airlines have taken the MAX 8 planes out of service in the last two days following the deadly
crash shortly after takeoff in Ethiopia.
About 350 are in operation which equates to about 8,500 flights a week around the world.
The jet came on the market in 2017. Each one costs about $121 million. Their engines are 40 percent quieter and 14 percent more fuel efficient than previous models.

require TVA to hold open meetings that the public can attend.
State Sen. Ken Yager, R-Kingston, explained Senate Joint Resolution 192 in a Senate committee meeting this week, in which the resolution won unanimous approval.
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today voted for, and the House passed, H.R. 1 – the For the People Act – to restore our democracy and clean up corruption. The vote was 234 to 193.
The comprehensive bill, which Congressman Cohen cosponsored, provides for automatic voter registration, ends inappropriate voter roll purges, restores voting rights to those who have completed their criminal sentences and reforms the campaign finance system.
