WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today introduced the Diversity Advancements in Accelerated Learning Programs Act, legislation that would authorize Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) funding to be used to create equity offices in state education departments or local education agencies. These offices would work to provide recommendations and develop programs to improve diversity in Advanced Placement (AP) and Gifted and Talented (GT) academic programs.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital will receive a $1,247,879 grant from the National Institute of Allergies and Infectious Diseases for research mapping the genomic and molecular mechanisms of antifungal resistance in the emerging fungal pathogen Candida auris, often spread in health care settings.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), the ranking member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Aviation Subcommittee, today announced that Memphis International Airport will receive a $14.8 million investment from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to modernize its 60-year-old terminal facilities and ensure modern day code compliance. The phased terminal development projects would ensure seismic resiliency and enhance ADA access.

Payne Jr., Gwen Moore, and Henry C. “Hank” Johnson Jr. today reintroduced a measure to remove the name of longtime Federal Bureau of Investigation Director J. Edgar Hoover from the FBI headquarters building in downtown Washington, D.C.
