MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced that the University of Memphis will receive a grant of $450,000 from the National Science Foundation for the purchase of a state-of-the-art micro-computer tomography scanner. The acquisition will benefit faculty in seven science and engineering disciplines, and enhance collaboration with other institutions of higher education at both the undergraduate and graduate level.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced that Christian Brothers University (CBU) will receive a research grant of $205,900 to study lipid oxidation in skeletal muscles from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases. The research is under the direction of Assistant Professor of Biology Dr. Jaycob Dalton Warfel.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today applauded President Biden’s declaration of a Major Disaster from severe storms and straight-line winds in Shelby, Tipton, Fayette and Henry counties from July 18 to July 21. The declaration triggers the availability of federal assistance for emergency work and the repair or replacement of damaged facilities and assistance needed to prevent or reduce risks to life and property from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced two grants, totaling $1,446,200, to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The first, for $263,200, is for Memphis STEM-M Ambassadors education and outreach program, from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences. The second, for $1,183,000, is for gene editing research involving sickle cell disease, from the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute.
