MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced that Memphis-based Parents for Peace, a non-governmental public health nonprofit organization helping families address violence and extremism, will receive an $832,000 grant from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The department announced the award of 34 grants nationwide, totaling $20 million, through the Targeted Violence and Terrorism Prevention (TVTP) Grant Program.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced that the University of Memphis will receive a grant of $450,000 from the National Science Foundation for the purchase of a state-of-the-art micro-computer tomography scanner. The acquisition will benefit faculty in seven science and engineering disciplines, and enhance collaboration with other institutions of higher education at both the undergraduate and graduate level.

The first, for $263,200, is for Memphis STEM-M Ambassadors education and outreach program, from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences. The second, for $1,183,000, is for gene editing research involving sickle cell disease, from the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute.
