WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today voted for, and the House passed, the Voting Rights Advancement Act, which restores protections of voting rights gutted by a 2013 Supreme Court decision. As Chairman of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, Congressman Cohen conducted several hearings on this bill, including one at the University of Memphis School of Law in September. WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the House Judiciary Committee, today questioned legal scholars on the Constitutional grounds for impeachment. WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that St. Jude Children's Research Hospital will receive a $695,409 grant from the National Cancer Institute for cancer research.
Congressman Cohen made the following statement:
"I'm pleased to announce that St. Jude will receive this important funding to continue its research into childhood cancers at the nation's premier childhood cancer research hospital. This critical funding will permit St. Jude to make new discoveries, improve therapies, and support the hospital's dedicated employees."
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) will receive a $380,000 grant from the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute for research on diabetic vascular disease.
Congressman Cohen made the following statement:
"Diabetes is more prevalent in Memphis and higher than the national average, so research into any aspect of the disease is good for Memphians. This research will strengthen our Memphis medical school and support critical research to fight this devastating disease."
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, today announced a $6 million Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grant to Memphis International Airport underwriting construction of de-icing pads and related facilities.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that two Memphis community development financial institutions (CDFIs) will be receiving grants from the U.S. Treasury Department totaling $500,000. Tri-State Bank of Memphis will receive $275,000 and River City Capital Investment Corporation will receive $225,000. The funds are intended to expand economic opportunities in economically distressed area and are provided to CDFIs devoted to offering affordable financial products and services in economically underserved areas.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today applauded the Tennessee Department of Human Services announcement that it would begin distributing some of the $732 million in unspent block grant funding for the Temporary Assistance to Needy Family programs that support Tennessee families. But he expressed disappointment that $342 million will still be retained as a reserve surplus.
