WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), Chairman of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, will participate Thursday in a Committee on Homeland Security field hearing on "Immigration Raids: Impacts and Aftermath on Mississippi Communities" at Tougaloo College in Tougaloo, Mississippi.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the House Judiciary Committee and Chairman of the Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberates, today joined his colleagues to establish rules and procedures for the next phase in the impeachment inquiry into President Trump's misconduct.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, questioned Boeing CEO Dennis Muilenburg and the company's Vice President and Chief Engineer John Hamilton today about efforts to minimize pilots' familiarity with a safety system aboard the Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. Many relatives of those killed in 737 MAX accidents attended the hearing.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) questioned witnesses today at an Education and Labor Subcommittee on Civil Rights and Human Services hearing titled "Long Overdue: Exploring the Pregnant Workers' Fairness Act (H.R. 2694)." In his questioning, Congressman Cohen asked about accommodating pregnant women by employers offering them leave and also raised questions about the conditions for pregnant women at the XPO Logistics warehouse in Memphis.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), Chairman of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, today questioned experts in election security and voter suppression about America's efforts to combat election interference and ensure our voting systems are safe, accurate and fair. Congressman Cohen believes U.S. elections should be decided by U.S. citizens without meddling by foreign governments and interests.

WASHINGTON – Following this morning's storms, Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) sought detailed information on damage and injuries from Shelby County emergency managers in advance of potentially seeking federal emergency disaster assistance. Reports indicate several areas of north and south Shelby County sustained structural damage while at least 26,000 homes were without electricity. The storm struck just after 6:30 a.m. local time.

WASHINGTON -- Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) and Congressman Robert "Bobby" Scott (VA-03) today reintroduced the Tax Return Preparer Accountability Act to protect consumers from unscrupulous tax preparation businesses. The legislation would give the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) explicit authority to ensure that paid tax preparers are adequately trained and maintain high standards of integrity.
