Congressman Cohen Defends The MED from Partisan Political Attack

Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) answered a Republican attack launched on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives about language in the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) bill to permit reimbursement to The MED from other states for medical care provided to their citizens. Rep. Michael Rogers (R-Michigan) singled out the CHIP provision for The MED as a Democratic “earmark” which the Republicans had no knowledge of, despite the same provision having been enacted by previous Republican-led Congresses.

Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) joined House Judiciary Chairman John Conyers and other members of the Judiciary Committee in introducing the “Protecting Employees and Retirees in Business Bankruptcies Act of 2007.” The bill seeks to protect workers and retirees when corporations file for bankruptcy and make it more difficult for the companies to use bankruptcy as a way to gut workers' wages and benefits. Representatives from the AFL-CIO and workers' unions also attended the press conference.

Washington, DC – Today Congressman Steve Cohen was the featured speaker at the National First Responder Appreciation Day on Capitol Hill. The event, hosted by the First Response Coalition, recognized the men and women of the emergency services for their sacrifices, contributions and dedication to public service. The First Response Coalition is urging the passage of H. Res. 592, the National First Responder Appreciation Day resolution which would designate September 25th as the day that recognizes first responders.

Congressman Cohen spoke on the floor of the House of Representatives about the FAA reauthorization bill and its effect on the City of Memphis.

Congressman Cohen showed his support for FedEx Express and for reauthorized FAA funding which will benefit air traffic control facilities and high priority safety-related systems.
