Mr. Speaker, during the break, I was home in my district in Memphis, Tennessee, and I spoke to 40 soldiers who had been to the Middle East. They were being honored. I asked many of them if they wanted to return. Most, nearly all, said, ``No. Why are we there and what are we accomplishing?''

Memphis, TN -- Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) will receive the Memphis Gridiron Show’s Headliner Award at its annual fundraising show April 21 at the Al Chymia Shrine Temple, 5770 Shelby Oaks Dr.

The annual Headliner Award honors a local leader for outstanding service to the community. Past award recipients include Shelby County Mayor A C Wharton, University of Memphis President Dr. Shirley C. Raines, Southwest Tennessee Community College athletic director Verties Sails and Church Health Center founder and executive director Dr. G. Scott Morris.

Memphis, TN -- Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) will address members of the Memphis Rotary Club at its weekly luncheon meeting at 12 p.m. Tuesday, April 10. The meeting will be held at the Memphis Cook Convention Center, Ballroom B, located at 255 N. Main Street.

Congressman Cohen will provide an overview of the first three months of the 110th Congress and key legislation which he has passed, supported and for which he has voted.

Madam Speaker, Monday evening begins the Jewish celebration of Passover. Passover is when the Jews remember when they were enslaved in Egypt and Moses led the Jewish people out of bondage and to freedom.

Washington, DC -- Today, the House passed a fiscally responsible budget with the right priorities for America’s families. Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) stated, "I’m proud to have voted for this budget, which restores fiscal responsibility and accountability, strengthens our national defense, and invests in the next generation and America’s prosperity."

Memphis, TN -- Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) will join a group of past and present major league baseball pioneers as a panelist on the "Baseball and the Civil Rights Movement" roundtable, 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, March 30 at the National Civil Rights Museum, 450 Mulberry St. in Memphis.

The roundtable discussion is a part of the activities surrounding Major League Baseball’s inaugural Civil Rights Game between the World Series Champion St. Louis Cardinals and the Cleveland Indians at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, March 31 at Memphis’ Autozone Park.

Washington, DC -- Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) introduced an amendment today to H.R. 1401, the Rail and Public Transportation Security Act of 2007. The amendment would establish a program to coordinate with state and local governments to minimize the need for toxic inhalation hazardous materials to be routed through our communities. The amendment passed the House by a comfortable margin.

Mr. Speaker, I yield myself such time as I may consume.

H.R. 753, sponsored by the entire Tennessee delegation of both the House and the Senate, is to designate the Federal building in Memphis, Tennessee, located at 167 North Main Street as the Clifford Davis and Odell Horton Federal Building.

Mr. Speaker, I want to thank the gentleman from Virginia for this time.

This is my first year in the Congress. In my 24 years in the State senate, I was the leading spokesperson for animal welfare legislation, and I took great pride in that. So I am particularly appreciative of standing up on this bill.
