H.R. 753, sponsored by the entire Tennessee delegation of both the House and the Senate, is to designate the Federal building in Memphis, Tennessee, located at 167 North Main Street as the Clifford Davis and Odell Horton Federal Building.

This is my first year in the Congress. In my 24 years in the State senate, I was the leading spokesperson for animal welfare legislation, and I took great pride in that. So I am particularly appreciative of standing up on this bill.
Washington, DC -- TodayCongressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) passed H.R.753, a bill which redesignates the federal building at 167 North Main Street in Memphis as the "Clifford Davis/Odell Horton Federal Building." Currently, the building is designated as the "Clifford Davis Federal Building." Clifford Davis was a U.S. Representative, first elected in 1940, who served 11 terms.

Mr. Speaker, on Monday I spoke on this floor about a conflict I had in supporting this measure because I want peace in our world and I want our troops to come home. I asked for my constituents to let me know how they felt.

Madam Speaker, yesterday in Memphis, Tennessee, a giant of a man passed away: G.E. Patterson, the bishop of the Church of God in Christ, a congregation of over 6.5 million people worldwide headquartered in Memphis, Tennessee.
Washington, DC -- Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) will speak about the passing of Bishop G.E. Patterson this morning on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives. The speech will occur during the 10:00 a.m. Eastern Time hour. Bishop Patterson founded Temple Deliverance in Memphis in 1975 and twenty-five years later Temple of Deliverance Church of God in Christ has more than 13,000 members.
