MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced that St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital will receive a grant of $523,387 from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke to study synaptic vesicular transporters.
Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

MEMPHIS – Representatives Steve Cohen (TN-9), Lloyd Doggett (TX-37) and Nanette Barragán (CA-44) today led a letter to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Chiquita Brooks-LaSure endorsing Medicare coverage of dental procedures linked to improved treatment of diabetes. The letter was co-signed by 38 other Members of Congress.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9), the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe Parliamentary Assembly’s Special Representative on Political Prisoners, today wrote President Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken seeking to have journalist and opposition leader Vladimir Kara-Mura designated as “wrongfully detained” by Russia under the Levinson Act. The letter was sent on the day the world learned of the death of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny in a Russian prison.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9), the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe Parliamentary Assembly’s Special Representative on Political Prisoners, today expressed profound sadness at the in-custody death of Russia’s chief opposition leader Alexei Navalny, and made the following statement:

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9), a senior member of the Judiciary Committee, voted again tonight against sham articles of impeachment against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Last week, Congressman Cohen voted against the same partisan measure which failed by a single vote.
The vote tonight was 214 to 213, and the measure was adopted.

WASHINGTON - Aviation Subcommittee Ranking Member Steve Cohen (D-TN) and Chairman Garret Graves (R-LA) led a bipartisan group of House Members in sending a letter to Michael Whitaker, Administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), encouraging the FAA to modernize its mental health protocols to ensure aviation professionals can obtain mental health care in a timely and efficient manner.

WASHINGTON – Congressmen Steve Cohen (TN-9), Jerry Nadler (NY-12) and Jared Huffman (CA-2) were joined by eleven other Members of Congress on a letter they sent today to Interior Secretary Deb Haaland requesting that the Department of the Interior (DOI) prohibit the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal Plant and Health Inspection Service’s Wildlife Services Program from using body-gripping traps on all DOI lands.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9), whose district includes Memphis with a child poverty rate of 32.7 percent, went to the House floor Tuesday evening to discuss income inequality and poverty and Tennessee’s failure to address it.
In his remarks, he said in part:

While Congressman Cohen strongly supports Israel and wants to send it what it needs to defend itself and defeat Hamas, this bill is a Republican partisan ploy. The House should instead consider a comprehensive response to U.S. national Security concerns.
