WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Congressman Steve Cohen (D-TN-9) today announced that St. Jude’s Children Hospital has been awarded two federal research grants worth more than $680,000 from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences and the National Cancer Institute.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steve Cohen (D-TN-9) today announced that the University of Memphis has been awarded $425,714 for cancer detection and diagnosis research from the National Cancer Institute (NCI).

“The University of Memphis is known for its top-of-the-line cancer research facilities,” said Congressman Cohen. “These funds will help the University of Memphis continue its work and provide students with clinical experience that will help Memphians and Americans across the country.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steve Cohen (D-TN-9) today announced the Memphis Bioworks Foundation has been awarded $760,000 by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for the construction of the UT-Baptist Research Park in the downtown Memphis Medical Center.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steve Cohen (D-TN-9) today announced the University of Tennessee Health Science Center was awarded $348,400 for diabetes, endocrinology and metabolic research from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK). Memphis and Shelby County have some of the highest diabetes rates in the nation.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Congressman Steve Cohen (D-TN-9) today announced the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) has awarded $200,000 to the University of Memphis’ Karnak Hypostyle Hall Project.

“The Karnak Hypostyle Hall Project seeks to document one of the greatest architectural wonders of its era,” said Congressman Cohen. “With this grant, the University of Memphis will continue to be a national leader in the study of the architecture and culture of Ancient Egypt.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steve Cohen (D-TN-9) today announced the National Center for Research Sources has awarded St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital $2,772,027 to purchase a state-of-the-art MRI scanner for research into catastrophic diseases. The federal funds were made available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
